What winter left behind

What winter left behind

Last year, around this time, I was getting ready to move to this wonderful place I call home now. I was excited about the little garden I was going to have and the things I would plant in it. I took some herbs from my old garden and planted some new ones alongside tomatoes and bell peppers.

After a sunny Spring and a rainy Summer, we had one tomato and one little bell pepper and the hopes of having more next Summer. But then after a beautiful Fall, Winter came and took most of it away. We have a lot of trees all around the house, which is perfect for privacy, but not so much for sunshine. The soil isn’t that great either, so just a couple of weeks of cold, and just a few days of snow was enough to finish the already starving plants.

The sage is still there (a remnant from my old garden) and the parsley is this little wonder that peaks it’s head through the leaves I have yet to get rid of. It has even grown since the last time we saw it. And than there’s this plant that was here before we were, that’s just doing it’s thing. popping out some sweet little flowers.

To be honest, I’m wondering what I’m going to do with this little garden this year. I don’t want to waste much money on it again, but I would like to work on it. I’m thinking a few seeds here and there and maybe pick up a rake to get rid of the last signs of Winter once and for all?

Spring things

Spring Things

Two new pieces in the shop! Some lovely lace earrings for a fairytale feast (or, you know, a dinner party) and a Spring necklace with a beautiful leaf and some mint green beads to put it off balance. We’re so lucky with the beautiful sunny weather, making it easy to shoot some nice product shots.

Some other things that caught my eye the past days:

  • So in love with this lilac hair. Like, dangerously in love.
  • Also in love with this blog about a couple’s adventures into farming (which is such a bad description, you should go check it out to see just how bad). Kate has me wanting to get my hands into the dirt.
  • I loved this post on a new-to-me blog. Hollie also has a food blog that looks very good.
  • I really enjoyed this Quit Your Day Job interview. Her work is great, too.
  • There was a nice post on my jewelry on the papernstitch blog. It was really nice to read what she had to say about Damsel of Dainty.

Any cool stuff that caught your eye lately?

All the things I like

All the things I like

  • Drinking a pink smoothie/shake outside to enjoy the sunshine for a bit. I actually get pretty stressed out when the weather is nice, because I feel like I should go enjoy it immediately, though obviously I have work to do, but when will a nice day like this happen again? I mean you never know around here so maybe I could work outside or should I just go for a walk real short or or or… Sigh.
  • A small detail inside the house.
  • The silhouettes of leaves that appear all around and move with the sun from place to place.
  • The way the light shines through the window and changes the colors.
  • It also shows me that I should probably clean the windows sometimes. Yes, that is a window.
  • I also made a bracelet with all the things I like.

Rebecca’s Reign

Rebecca's Reign

Rebecca's Reign

A while ago I was playing around with these lovely mint green beads and when I combined them with this coral lace, I immediately thought of my good friend Rebecca. Mint and coral are some of her favorite colors. So when I made this pretty necklace, I named it after her: Rebecca’s Reign. I sent her the very first one as a surprise, so I waited to put it in the shop until it had arrived. You can already see her wearing it here!

The lace actually belonged to Joop’s grandmother, who was an avid seamstress. I’d been waiting for the right design to use it in, and this is it.

Don’t you think this necklace is just perfect for Spring?

Round here

Round here

So, it’s been a little quiet around here lately. I must say I’ve been doing a lot of thinking and that don’t make for the prettiest pictures. What does, is a little bit of sunshine. I took these photo’s last weekend, when it was warm enough to sit out on the porch in a cardigan, and the sun was shining all day long.

We did the day right, starting off with french toast (you can see some crumbs left on the plate), cleaning up the porch (the garden and it’s abundance of leaves will have to wait) and then sit there, reading and thinking.

Joop discovered that birds nest (as seen on re:frame) in the tree on the outer corner of the garden. It’s on eye level and just beside the road, so it’s not the most clever spot, if you don’t mind me saying so Mr. Bird. I’ll have to keep an eye on it.

Have you had any sunshine where you are?
